"Expressions in Music"
From Baroque to Expressionism

Dear Musical Friends,

It is still with great memories of last summer's Ameropa 16th dedicated to celebration of three centuries of chamber music, from Joseph Haydn to Bohuslav Martinů, that I'm inviting you to join us again to get on the "Bridge of Celebrations" leading us from Baroque period to 20th century chamber art.

We developed  Ameropa project, which will go on next 2 years. Its name is „HOMAGE TO ABSTRACTIONISM, Arnold Schoenberg * Wassily Kandinsky, Multimedia project to the 100th anniversary of the birth of abstract art“.

The beginning of the 20th century was marked by the search for new ways of artistic expression. One of the most important events in this effort was the transition from figurative to nonfigurative or abstract painting and from tonal to atonal music where Wassily Kandinsky and Arnold Schoenberg were the protagonists. Their paths crossed for the first time in Munich on 2nd January 1911 when Wassily Kandinsky came to Arnold Schoenberg’s concert. Schoenberg's music that challenged classical tradition struck a chord with Kandinsky and the concert inspired his remarkable oil painting Impression III, Concert. Sensing an affinity between his own work and the composer’s ideas, Kandinsky wrote Schoenberg shortly thereafter, initiating an extraordinary exchange between two artists and two fields - music and painting- exploring new horizons of abstractionism.

Ameropa festival and courses will collaborate among other with Austria (Schoenberg centrum) and Germany (Hochschule für Musik und Theater) developing concerts and multimedia performances with leading Czech, Austrian and German artists dedicated to Arnold Schoenberg and Wassily Kandinsky. We have promise, Prague Spring and Janacek Brno festivals will incorporate programs into festivals also it will be performed in Vienna and Munich during 9 month (from November 2010 till November 2011).  Exhibition of documents will share concerts and Schönberg – Kandinsky – Kupka paintings are prepared to be exhibit in Kampa Museum. Project will be self financing with separate funding under name of Ameropa department: Ameropa Abstrakcionismus. We have auspice of Czech ministries (culture, education and foreign affairs) and we hope, that projext will be one of leading cultural events during 2011.

Ameropa international chamber music festival and courses will be part of the project with repertory main themes, which will be:

2010       „Expressions in Music“ subtitle „From Baroque to Expressionism“
2011      „Homage to the art of Abstractionism“ subtitle „From Expressionism to Abstractionism“
2012      „Second Vienna School and its influence in 20-21 centuries  in Europe" subtitle
"Prague & Terezín composers"

We hope to meet with you and collaborate in this extremely interesting project, which themes will be added beside classical and so beautiful works of chamber music like Dvorak, Martinu, Haydn, Shostakovich, Beethoven, Shubert, Brahms, Ibert among others.

Looking forward to your return or even your first visit,

Musically & sincerely yours,
